Recording a daily spike of over 28,000 confirmed coronavirus cases for the third consecutive day, the Union Health Ministry on Tuesday confirmed that the total number of COVID-19 cases in the country has breached past the 9-lakh mark. Alarmingly, India has reported nearly two lakh virus infections in a week's time.

According to the latest bulletin by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, around 28,498 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours, taking the total tally to 9,06,752.

Out of the total cases, around 5,71,46 have been successfully cured while one COVID-19 patient has been migrated from the country. According to the Health Minstry, there are 3,11,565 active cases in the country.

Apart from the infections, 553 new virus-related deaths were reported in the last 24 hours in the country. The death toll due to coronavirus currently stands at 23,727.

Meanwhile, the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has confirmed that over 1.20 crore samples have been tested for COVID-19 so far. Out of these samples, 2,86,247 were tested yesterday across the country.

The recovery rate among COVID-19 patients has increased to 63.02% while the recoveries/deaths ratio is 96.01%:3.99% now, said the central government.
