Former Finance Minister P Chidambaram dramatically emerged at the All India Congress Committee (AICC) headquarters on Thursday evening after his 27-hour long disappearance. Consequently, he addressed the press at the headquarters and drove back to his residence amid being wanted by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials. Later, he was taken into the CBI’s custody after the colossal drama that took place outside his Jor Bagh’s residence in New Delhi. Chidambaram’s front gate turned into a highly fortified entrance as the CBI officials were compelled climb the front walls of former Finance Minister’s house to arrest him. Chidambaram was kept at the CBI headquarters for one night before his questioning began on Thursday morning. He did not speak to the CBI officials and the doctor who examined him on the day. Chidambaram is arrested for questioning on the grounds of being involved in INX Media case. He allegedly helped in facilitating the necessary approvals for an overseas investment from Mauritius. A 1 million-dollar deal was struck in between his son Karthi Chidambaram and the owners of INX Media -- Indrani and Peter Mukherjea. Indecently, P Chidambaram was the one who had inaugurated the CBI headquarters in the past.

On Thursday morning P Chidambaram was taken to the Economic Offence Unit within CBI for questioning. His son Karthi told the news agency ANI that his arrest was a spectacle drama for TV.

On Thursday morning Karthi claimed that he has never met Indrani and Peter Mukherjea.

The Congress workers in Chennai started a protest for P Chidambaram’s arrest. After making a comment in Chennai, Karthi joined the DMK protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi.
Amid all this, Congress released Chidambaram’s press statement on their official media handle.

As Kapil Sibbal raised his concern the Union Minister for Home, G Kisshan Redday said that, government has no role in the decisions that are taken by the judiciary.

Meanwhile, a congress party protest began in Barrackpore, West Bengal.
Randeep Sujrewal said that this arrest has been made to create a distraction from the issues relating to the sinking economy. He said, "We see the depths to which he desperate BJP govt will stoop to divert people's attentions." Meanwhile, Mamata Banerjee from West Bengal also condemned the way in which Chidambaram was arrested. The ongoing questioning will now end in 3 hours and Chidambaram is likely to be produced in front of special CBI court later on Thursday.
