A complaint has been filed by an IOA member against the Handball Federation of India (HFI) in sports ministry for not following rules as per the national sports code, 2011. The complaint asks for de-recognising HFI with immediate effect.

The complaint, addressed to Sports Secretary Ravi Mittal, states the elections were not in accordance with the bye laws. The complaint, which is also marked to the sports minister Kiren Rijiju, lists the clause that amounts for irregularity by HFI.

Clause 33. (3): The tenure of the Governing Body shall not exceed three years. The matters pertaining to re-election of any office-bearer shall be regulated in accordance with the Bye-laws.

As per the complaint HFI elections were held in December, 2013 and then in November, 2017 as opposed to 2016 and 2019.

IOA executive council member, Bholanath Singh, in his complaint has accused the sports ministry of selectively penalising certain federations while ignoring others. HFI elections being cited as a case in point.

The complaint states, “Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports is requested to immediately withdraw the recognition of HFI and ask the District Registrar, Government of Haryana to constitute ad-hoc committee or appoint an Administrator to manage the affairs of this NSF. Request the Government of India to take coercive measures in this regard.”

Earlier, axed Hockey India President has written to the sports secretary against IOA Secretary General Rajiv Mehta and how his positions as President in Fencing and Kho Kho federation is illegal.
