Chennai: With 4329 new positive cases of coronavirus and 64 deaths in the last 24 hours, the total number of infections in Tamil Nadu crossed one-lakh mark, the State Health Department said on Friday. The pandemic has calmed nearly 1,400 lives in the state so far.

"As many as 64 deaths and 4329 new cases of Covid-19 reported in Tamil Nadu today, taking the total number of positive cases in the State to 1,02,721. The death toll stands at 1,385," the Health Department said.

Tamil Nadu has become the second state after Maharashtra to record more than one lakh coronavirus cases in the country. Of new cases, Chennai reported 2082 positive cases, bringing the city's total to 64,689.

According to the Health Department, a total of 33,488 samples were tested in the last 24 hours, taking the tally to 12,35,692. As many as 4,836 children under the age of twelve, 81,74,522 people between the age group of 13 to 60 years and 11,811 persons above 60 years have tested positive in the state.
